What the Xeon E-2226G is

The Xeon E-2226G offers six physical cores without Hyper-Threading for six threads. It launched in May 2019 with a 3.4 GHz base and up to 4.7 GHz boost at 80 W. Intel aims it at entry workstations where predictable per core performance matters more than thread count.

Twelve megabytes of Smart Cache spread across six cores keep CAD parts responsive. The absence of Hyper-Threading simplifies licensing for software tied to physical cores. Boost still reaches 4.7 GHz for single thread peaks.

UHD Graphics P630 from 350 MHz to 1.2 GHz covers office displays without a discrete card. The process is 14 nm and the multiplier is locked. ECC memory support protects long running models from bit errors.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The E-2226G fits LGA 1151 on revision 2 boards only. C242 and C246 boards provide ECC UDIMM slots and display outputs for P630 graphics. Consumer boards may boot it where listed, but ECC only works on workstation chipsets.

Mid 2019 BIOS versions include E-2200 IDs. Early boards may need an update. Revision 1 platforms never support it. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide explains the board generation split.

Single socket towers suit small offices. Scaling beyond six cores means another Xeon E SKU on the same board.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2666 ECC UDIMMs in two channels up to 128 GB cover office and CAD use. Dual channel mode helps P630 graphics in particular. Start with 16 GB for general work and 32 GB for larger assemblies.

Sixteen Gen3 CPU lanes can take a workstation GPU or stay free when P630 handles displays. Chipset lanes carry storage and networking. Most boards default to 1x16 for the primary slot.

Cooling follows the 75 mm LGA 1151 pattern in the CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide. An 80 W tower holds boost under sustained loads. Keep dust filters clean where machines run daily.

Upgrade paths

On the same socket, the Intel Xeon E-2246G adds Hyper-Threading for twelve threads at the same 80 W. The Intel Xeon E-2224G drops to four cores at 71 W for lower cost. Both fit C242 and C246 after a BIOS check.

Consumer i5-9600 gives six cores without ECC for gaming. It suits play rather than production.

Past LGA 1151 newer Xeon E families need LGA 1200. The E-2226G covers physical core licensing where six cores with graphics and ECC must last.
