What the Xeon E-2286G is

The Xeon E-2286G combines six cores with Hyper-Threading for twelve threads at high clocks. It launched in May 2019 with a 4.0 GHz base and up to 4.9 GHz boost at 95 W. Intel positions it as the single thread leader for CAD workstations that also need ECC.

Twelve megabytes of Smart Cache keep large assemblies responsive. The very high base clock sustains modeling work without dropping under load, while boost approaches 5 GHz for peak tasks. Twelve threads cover rendering helpers and background services.

UHD Graphics P630 from 350 MHz to 1.2 GHz drives three displays for office use without a discrete card. The process is 14 nm and the multiplier is locked. ECC memory across two channels protects long jobs from bit errors.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The E-2286G fits LGA 1151 on revision 2 boards only. C246 workstation boards pair it with ECC UDIMMs and DisplayPort outputs for P630 graphics. Builders who add a discrete GPU can still use integrated graphics for extra displays.

Mid 2019 BIOS revisions carry E-2200 IDs on most workstation boards. Early stock may need an update before posting. Revision 1 boards never accept it. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide details the revision block.

Single socket towers are the natural home. There is no dual socket path, so growth beyond six cores means Xeon Scalable instead.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2666 ECC UDIMMs in two channels up to 128 GB suit CAD and entry server use. Dual channel operation lifts both CPU and P630 graphics throughput. Order matched pairs for best stability.

Sixteen Gen3 lanes from the CPU feed a workstation GPU or NVMe RAID card where designs need one. P630 graphics handle office displays without using those lanes. Chipset links add SATA and USB for the rest of the system.

Cooling needs a 95 W capable tower under sustained all core boosts. The 75 mm LGA 1151 pattern from the CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide applies. Keep case exhaust clear when a discrete GPU shares the enclosure.

Upgrade paths

On the same socket, the Intel Xeon E-2288G adds two more cores with graphics at the same 95 W for heavier parallel work. The Intel Xeon E-2276G trims clocks slightly at 80 W for lower heat. Both fit C242 and C246 after a BIOS check.

Consumer i7-9700K matches core counts without ECC for gaming. It fits 300 series boards rather than workstation C246.

Past LGA 1151 newer Xeon E generations require LGA 1200. The E-2286G covers high clock workstations where six fast cores with graphics and ECC must endure.
