What the Core i7-7700T is

The Core i7-7700T is a four core, eight thread desktop processor from Kaby Lake. It launched in January 2017 with a 2.9 GHz base and up to 3.8 GHz Turbo at 35 W. Four cores with Hyper-Threading in a low power envelope cover small offices where threads help multitasking without high heat.

Eight megabytes of Smart Cache feed office suites with background tools. The 2.9 GHz base keeps sustained loads quiet, while 3.8 GHz burst lifts interactive peaks. Thirty five watts fit thin towers.

HD Graphics 630 drives office monitors with 4K output. Hardware decode keeps video smooth. Eight threads cover multitasking that dual cores struggle with.

On 14 nm the 7700T serves low power desktops against the 65 W 7700. Makers use it for small form factor performance offices. Locked multiplier removes tuning.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The 7700T fits LGA 1151 revision 1 only. Two hundred series boards accept it natively, while 100 series may need a BIOS update. Revision 2 boards never support it.

The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide explains board generations. Thin mini ITX boards pair it with DDR4 for quiet performance.

The Core i7-7700 on the same socket adds clocks at 65 W. The Core i5-7600T is the quad core without Hyper-Threading at the same power.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2133/2400 or DDR3L up to 64 GB in two channels is the support. Dual channel operation helps graphics. SSDs decide boot feel.

Sixteen PCIe 3.0 lanes wire graphics or NVMe storage. Office builds use integrated displays. Thirty five watt coolers cover the load easily.

The 75 mm pattern shares coolers with LGA 1155, 1150 and LGA 1200.

Upgrade paths

On the same socket Core i7-7700 adds pace at 65 W. Both reuse board and DDR4.

Past revision 1 a new board is needed. Storage upgrades usually come first.
