What the Core i5-7500 is

The Core i5-7500 is a four core, four thread desktop processor from Kaby Lake. It launched in January 2017 with a 3.4 GHz base and up to 3.8 GHz Turbo at 65 W. Four cores cover office towers and entry creation where multitasking matters more than high clocks.

Six megabytes of Smart Cache feed office suites with background tools. The 3.4 GHz base sustains multitasking well, while 3.8 GHz burst lifts interactive peaks. Sixty five watts fit stock tower cooling.

HD Graphics 630 drives office monitors with 4K output. Hardware decode keeps video smooth. Four cores handle multitasking without Hyper-Threading.

On 14 nm the 7500 was the volume i5 of Kaby Lake above the 7400. Offices picked it for fleets that stay responsive under load. Locked multiplier keeps it stock.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The 7500 fits LGA 1151 revision 1 only. B250 and H270 accept it natively, while H110 may need a BIOS update. Revision 2 boards never support it.

The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide explains board generations. Office B250 towers pair it with DDR4 for volume fleets.

The Core i5-7600 on the same socket adds clocks. The low power 7500T is the 35 W alternative for small cases.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2133/2400 or DDR3L up to 64 GB in two channels is the support. Dual channel DDR4-2400 helps office pace. Two modules are standard.

Sixteen PCIe 3.0 lanes wire graphics or NVMe storage. Office builds use integrated output. Stock 65 W cooling covers sustained loads.

The 75 mm pattern shares coolers with LGA 1155, 1150 and LGA 1200.

Upgrade paths

On the same socket Core i5-7600 adds clocks, while Core i7-7700 adds threads. Both reuse board and DDR4.

Past revision 1 a new board is required. SSD upgrades help office fleets most.
