What the Pentium G4620 is

The Pentium G4620 is a two core, four thread desktop processor from Kaby Lake. It launched in January 2017 with a fixed 3.7 GHz at 51 W. The fastest Pentium in the Kaby Lake set covers office towers where a high dual core clock helps single task pace.

Three megabytes of cache feed responsive desktops with several apps. The fixed 3.7 GHz leads Pentium parts for document work and browsing. Fifty one watts suit standard tower coolers.

HD Graphics 630 with 24 execution units from 350 MHz to 1100 MHz drives office monitors and 4K signs. Hardware decode keeps video smooth. Threads help multitasking beyond Celeron parts.

On 14 nm the G4620 tops Kaby Lake Pentiums above the G4600. Small offices pick it for reception and back office PCs. Locked multiplier keeps it stock clocked.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The G4620 fits LGA 1151 revision 1 only. Two hundred series boards accept it natively, while 100 series may need a BIOS update. Three hundred series boards never support it.

The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers revision gaps. B250 boards pair it with DDR4 for office fleets.

The Pentium Intel Pentium G4600 is the slightly lower clock sibling on the same socket. Core i3-7100 adds cache and clocks where needed.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2133/2400 or DDR3L up to 64 GB in two channels is the support. Dual channel operation helps HD 630 output. SSDs decide boot pace more than 100 MHz.

Sixteen PCIe 3.0 lanes wire graphics or NVMe storage. Office towers use integrated displays. Stock 51 W cooling on the 75 mm pattern covers the fixed clock.

The pattern shares coolers with LGA 1155, 1150 and LGA 1200. Compact cases should keep intake clear.

Upgrade paths

On the same socket Core i3-7300 series parts add cache, while Core i5-7400 brings four cores. All reuse board and DDR4.

Past revision 1 a new board is required. Memory and SSD upgrades usually come first.
