What the Core i3-7320 is

The Core i3-7320 is a two core, four thread desktop processor from Kaby Lake. It launched in January 2017 with a fixed 4.1 GHz at 51 W. The fastest locked i3 in the Kaby Lake set covers office towers where a high fixed clock helps single task pace.

Four megabytes of Smart Cache support responsive desktops with office suites. The fixed 4.1 GHz leads locked i3 parts for page loads and document work. Fifty one watts fit standard tower coolers.

HD Graphics 630 from 350 MHz to 1150 MHz drives office monitors with 4K output. The graphics burst matches the 7300 and 7350K tier. Hardware decode keeps video smooth.

On 14 nm the 7320 sits just below the unlocked 7350K on clocks. Offices that forbid tuning pick it for top locked pace. Locked multiplier keeps behavior simple.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The 7320 fits LGA 1151 revision 1 only. Two hundred series boards accept it natively, while 100 series may need a BIOS update. Revision 2 boards never support it.

The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide explains revision gaps. B250 office boards pair it with DDR4 for fleets.

The Core i3-7350K on the same socket adds tuning at 4.2 GHz. The Core i3-7300 is the slightly lower clock sibling where cost matters.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2133/2400 or DDR3L up to 64 GB in two channels is the support. Dual channel DDR4-2400 helps graphics. SSD choice decides boot feel.

Sixteen PCIe 3.0 lanes wire graphics or NVMe storage. Office towers use integrated displays for two monitors. Stock cooling covers 51 W.

The 75 mm mounting pattern shares coolers with LGA 1155, 1150 and LGA 1200.

Upgrade paths

On the same socket the unlocked 7350K adds tuning headroom, while Core i5-7400 brings four cores. Both reuse board and memory.

Past revision 1 a new board is required. Most fleets add SSDs before CPU changes.
