What the A4-5100 is

The A4-5100 is a late Kabini Jaguar refresh for budget notebooks on Socket FT3. AMD set four Jaguar cores at 1.55 GHz with 2 MB of shared L2 cache. Power is 15 W on 28 nm from November 2013. Radeon HD 8330 graphics at 500 MHz handle school work and video. A small clock step over the 1.5 GHz A4-5000 suits late production laptops with the same cooling.

Slightly higher fixed clocks help single thread apps without leaving the 15 W class. Four threads cover browsing beside documents with an SSD. Graphics at 500 MHz smooth playback on laptop panels. The soldered package locks memory at purchase. Panel and SSD quality shape feel more than 50 MHz in these bodies.

Single channel DDR3L feeds cores and graphics. The 15 W envelope fits standard notebook fans. The A4-5100 covers late budget laptops where a small refresh step at 15 W is wanted.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The A4-5100 solders to Socket FT3 as BGA769 at 24.5 × 24.5 mm. There is no socket and no later swap. The chip cannot be replaced. Memory wires per laptop model. Maker specs set ceilings.

The LGA, PGA and BGA: CPU package types explained guide covers soldered notebook limits. Drives and wireless are the later changes. A faster notebook needs a new board.

Temash parts share the package class but target tablets. Notebook boards never take slate chips.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR3L-1600 class memory in a single channel suits budget laptops. Four gigabytes covers school images. Soldered sizes lock at order. Bandwidth fits HD video.

PCIe 2.0 with up to 8 lanes from the SoC links Wi-Fi and storage. Notebook plans wire lanes per model. Maker manuals list exact slots.

Cooling is a notebook pipe and fan for 15 W with pattern Not applicable (soldered). No retail cooler exists. Clean vents hold 1.55 GHz during lessons.

Upgrade paths

Within the soldered line the AMD A4-5000 at 1.5 GHz is a slightly slower twin on similar boards. The AMD A6-5200 with four faster threads and HD 8400 graphics adds speed where 25 W cooling allows. Both share FT3 fit.

A modern laptop means a new platform. The A4-5100 holds late budget notebooks where quad 1.55 GHz threads at 15 W suffice.
