What the A4-1250 is

The A4-1250 is a Temash Jaguar APU for larger tablets on Socket FT3. AMD set two Jaguar cores at 1.0 GHz with 1 MB of shared L2 cache. Power is 8 W on 28 nm from May 2013. Radeon HD 8210 graphics cover touch apps and HD video. Extra thermal headroom over the 4 W A4-1200 suits bigger screens with brighter panels.

Fixed clocks keep power even in sealed bodies with small fans. Two threads handle browsing beside media playback with flash storage. Integrated graphics drive HD panels without a separate chip. The soldered package locks screen and storage at purchase. Panel quality shapes feel more than clocks in these slates.

Single channel DDR3L feeds cores and graphics. The 8 W envelope allows thin fans or large passive spreaders. The A4-1250 covers tablets where two Jaguar threads with stronger graphics at 8 W are wanted.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The A4-1250 solders to Socket FT3 as BGA769. There is no socket and no processor change later. The chip cannot be replaced. Boards wire memory per slate model. Maker specs set exact display limits.

The LGA, PGA and BGA: CPU package types explained guide covers soldered limits. Software and external cards are the only later changes. A faster tablet means a new board or a new slate.

FT1 Bobcat boards never accept this Jaguar chip. Packages never interchange across generations.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR3L-1333 class memory in a single channel suits tablets. Board sizes cover slate images. Soldered memory locks at purchase. Bandwidth fits HD screens and touch layers.

PCIe 2.0 with up to 8 lanes from the SoC links Wi-Fi and storage. Tablet wiring follows the slate plan. Maker pages list exact paths.

Cooling is a small fan or spreader for 8 W with pattern Not applicable (soldered). No retail cooler exists. Keep vents open during video sessions.

Upgrade paths

Within the soldered line the AMD A4-1200 at 1.0 GHz is a lower power twin for smaller slates. The AMD A4-1350 with four threads suits heavier tablet multitasking on similar boards. Both share FT3 mounting.

A new slate means a new platform. The A4-1250 holds larger tablets where 8 W dual cores are enough.
