What the A4-5050 is

The A4-5050 is an HP OEM Kabini quad for entry notebooks on Socket FT3. It runs 4 cores and 4 threads at a fixed 1.55 GHz with 2 MB of L2 cache. Power is 13.5 W on 28 nm from February 2014. The 50 MHz edge over the A4-5000 with slightly lower power is the whole story.

Fifty megahertz and 1.5 W separate it from the retail A4-5100 class. Four cores cover school multitasking at low heat. The 13.5 W envelope stretches battery in plastic HP bodies. The soldered package means buyers choose the whole HP notebook.

Radeon HD 8330 with 128 shaders at 500 MHz drives notebook panels for video. DDR3L-1600 over one channel feeds cores and graphics. The A4-5050 covers HP lineups where an OEM-only badge costs less than retail silicon.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The A4-5050 solders to the board on Socket FT3 and cannot be replaced. HP locks memory and storage configs per model. Boards wire SODIMM DDR3L with eDP panels.

FT3 HP notebooks use SoC SATA and USB. Retail AM1 desktops cannot take this OEM BGA chip. The LGA, PGA and BGA: CPU package types explained guide explains soldered OEM limits.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR3L-1600 over a single channel suits HP entry notebooks. One 4 GB SODIMM covers classroom browsing. Single channel operation is fixed.

PCIe 2.0 with up to 8 lanes from the SoC serves storage and radios. Small SSDs lift feel on fixed clocks. Most builds stay on HD 8330 graphics.

Cooling follows the HP design for 13.5 W. Thin bodies run quietly. The locked multiplier keeps thermals steady.

Upgrade paths

On the same socket, the AMD E2-3800 at 1.3 GHz below saves cost with HD 8280 graphics, while the AMD A4 PRO-3340B at 2.2 GHz above adds business speed. All share FT3 boards.

Beema A4-6210 covers newer entry notebooks. The A4-5050 holds HP OEM Kabini duty at 13.5 W.
