FP5 socket: CPUs, chipsets and cooler fit
FP5 is AMD's soldered package for Ryzen mobile APUs from the 2000 and 3000 series. It is a ball grid array with 1,140 contacts, and the package measures 35 × 25 mm. AMD introduced it in January 2018 with Raven Ridge, and Picasso followed in 2019.

Overview
The package carries Zen and Zen+ compute cores with Radeon Vega graphics and the platform hub on one die. That integration suits thin laptops and embedded boards, where one soldered chip covers the processor, graphics and I/O without socket overhead.
FP5 was superseded by FP6 and later mobile packages. Boards are vendor qualified per processor, so memory type, display outputs and power limits follow the laptop or board design rather than the package name.

Soldered package
FP5 processors are soldered with 1,140 balls and cannot be removed or replaced. There is no retention lever, no pin grid and no aftermarket mounting choice. Thermal design uses the system heatsink sized for the configured TDP, typically 15 W in thin laptops and up to 45 W in larger H series designs.
Because the chip cannot be swapped, buying decisions should weigh the soldered memory and storage alongside the processor. A board replacement is the only CPU upgrade path, which rarely makes sense against a newer laptop.
Memory and I/O
FP5 designs use DDR4 memory in two channels, commonly DDR4-2400 in Picasso laptops. Some designs use LPDDR4 instead, but the memory is usually soldered too, so capacity and speed are fixed at purchase. Display outputs, USB and storage lanes all hang off the single die through the board wiring.
PCIe connectivity is PCIe 3.0 with a lane layout that varies by board. A few larger designs pair the APU with a discrete GPU over 8 lanes, while thin designs skip discrete graphics entirely and rely on the Vega integrated GPU.
Platform lifecycle
FP5 covers Raven Ridge from 2018, Picasso from 2019 and the Dali refresh from 2020. AMD moved on to FP6 for Ryzen 4000 mobile and to FP7 and FP8 for later generations. New compatible boards are therefore used or old stock, not current retail.
For a working FP5 laptop the practical path is maintenance: fresh thermal paste, clean fans and an SSD upgrade where the board allows. A platform move means a new laptop on FP8 or newer, with DDR5 memory and current wireless.

Frequently asked questions
Can an FP5 processor be upgraded?
No. The processor is soldered to the board, so an upgrade means replacing the board or the whole laptop.
Which processors fit FP5?
Ryzen 2000 and 3000 mobile APUs with Radeon Vega graphics, plus Athlon mobile parts and the Dali refresh. Desktop AM4 parts do not fit.
Does FP5 support DDR5?
No. FP5 is a DDR4 platform. DDR5 arrived with the later FP7 and FP8 platforms.
Do FP5 processors have integrated graphics?
Yes, most FP5 APUs carry Radeon Vega graphics with up to 10 compute units, which covers office work and light games at modest settings.
