What the PRO 300U is

The Athlon PRO 300U is a dual core, four thread business mobile processor from Picasso. It launched in April 2019 for fleet thin laptops with a 2.4 GHz base and up to 3.3 GHz boost at 15 W. PRO firmware adds management and memory encryption to the consumer Athlon formula.

Zen+ cores on 12 nm run slightly faster per clock than the Raven Ridge Athlon 300U while sipping similar power. Half a megabyte of L2 per core and 4 MB of shared L3 back office multitasking. Vega 3 graphics cover business displays and video calls.

Fleet buyers choose PRO for stable images across task worker seats. The 15 W envelope with 12 to 25 W tuning fits thin business bodies. Two cores with four threads cover calls plus documents without strain.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The PRO 300U solders to FP5 on business laptop boards. PRO management needs business firmware. Consumer bodies run equivalent silicon without fleet tools.

Single fan cooling handles 15 W with quiet office profiles. Memory spans SODIMM and soldered per maker line. The How to find your CPU socket type guide shows where specs confirm FP5.

Desktop AM4 boards cannot host the mobile package. The FP5 ball map is unique.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2400 in two channels up to 32 GB is the business laptop memory. Fleet builds ship 4 or 8 GB. Dual channel operation feeds Vega 3 graphics.

Twelve PCIe 3.0 lanes wire NVMe storage and board devices in x8 plus x4 splits. A 256 GB SSD hosts the standard fleet image. Docks extend the desk.

Thermal design is 15 W sustained with short turbo for logins. No retail cooler pattern exists for soldered mobile.

Upgrade paths

Soldered FP5 allows no processor change. Memory to 8 GB and SSD growth extend fleet service. Battery replacement restores mobility.

A laptop move to the Ryzen 3 PRO 3300U doubles cores in the same PRO family. Refresh cycles later brought newer Ryzen PRO generations.

Frequently asked questions

What socket does the Athlon PRO 300U use?

It uses the FP5 soldered package.

Is the PRO 300U Picasso or Raven Ridge?

Picasso on 12 nm Zen+, unlike the Raven Ridge non-PRO 300U. AMD lists Picasso as its former codename.

What graphics are in the PRO 300U?

Radeon Vega 3 graphics with 3 cores up to 1000 MHz.

When did the PRO 300U launch?

April 8, 2019 with the Athlon PRO mobile family.

Can the PRO 300U be upgraded?

No. Soldered FP5 prevents processor replacement.
