BGA 1377 socket: CPUs, chipsets and cooler fit

BGA 1377 is Intel ball grid array package for ultra mobile Y processors of two families. The package carries 1,377 contacts in a 26.5 × 18.5 mm footprint and solders directly to thin device boards. Intel lists it as FCBGA-1377 for Ice Lake-Y and UTFCBGA1377 for Amber Lake-Y parts.

Overview

Ice Lake-Y arrived in August 2019 with 10 nm Sunny Cove cores and Iris Plus graphics in 9 W detachables. The same month Intel shipped 10th generation Amber Lake-Y parts with 14 nm cores and UHD graphics in 7 W tablets. Both families share the package but never share a board.

Memory follows the generation: LPDDR4X-3733 or DDR4-3200 soldered on Ice Lake-Y, LPDDR3-2133 or DDR3L-1600 up to 16 GB on Amber Lake-Y. PCIe runs at version 3.0 for NVMe storage. Soldered packaging fixes processor and memory for the life of the device.

Ice Lake-Y10th Gen Ice Lake Y2019Sunny Cove Y processors with Iris Plus or UHD graphics, launched in August 2019 with 1000G1, 1000G4, 1030G4, 1030G7 and 1060G7 at 9 W on BGA 1377.
Amber Lake-Y10th Gen Amber Lake Y201914 nm Y processors with UHD graphics, launched in August 2019 with 10110Y, 10210Y, 10310Y and 10510Y at 7 W on BGA 1377. Intel ARK lists Amber Lake Y as their code name.

Who BGA 1377 serves

BGA 1377 processors belong in thin detachables and tablets where weight matters more than sustained speed: 2-in-1 devices, premium tablets and fanless ultraportables. The 7 to 9 W envelope allows slim sealed bodies.

Within Ice Lake-Y the choice runs from dual core i3 parts for writing and calls through quad core i5 parts to the i7-1060G7 for light creation. Amber Lake-Y covers similar roles at lower cost with weaker graphics. Buyers who compile or edit video step up to U series laptops instead.

Memory and PCIe

Memory support splits by generation as described above, always soldered with no slots. Ice Lake-Y bandwidth peaks near 58.3 GB per sec with LPDDR4X-3733. Amber Lake-Y peaks near 33.3 GB per sec with LPDDR3-2133.

PCIe 3.0 wires internal NVMe storage in 128 to 512 GB sizes. Amber Lake-Y designs expose about 10 lanes for storage and board devices. External displays run through USB-C DisplayPort on most bodies.

Identifying and servicing BGA 1377

Identification reads FCBGA-1377 on Ice Lake-Y pages and UTFCBGA1377 on Amber Lake-Y pages, both at 26.5mm x 18.5mm. That separates BGA 1377 from BGA 1044 Apple parts and BGA 1528 thin laptop parts. The LGA, PGA and BGA: CPU package types explained guide explains soldered trade offs.

Service is whole device service with no processor or cooler to swap. Battery replacement extends travel life. The How to find your CPU socket type guide shows where maker specs list the package.

Frequently asked questions

Can a BGA 1377 processor be replaced or upgraded?

No. The processor is soldered to the board. Upgrading means replacing the board or the whole device.

What is the difference between Ice Lake-Y and Amber Lake-Y on BGA 1377?

Ice Lake-Y from August 2019 brings 10 nm Sunny Cove cores with Iris Plus graphics. Amber Lake-Y 10th generation parts from the same month reuse 14 nm cores with UHD graphics on the same package.

What memory does BGA 1377 use?

Ice Lake-Y boards use LPDDR4X-3733 or DDR4-3200, while Amber Lake-Y boards use LPDDR3-2133 or DDR3L-1600. Both wire two channels with soldered memory.

What PCIe does BGA 1377 provide?

PCIe 3.0 from the CPU for NVMe storage, with about 10 lanes on Amber Lake-Y designs. Exact wiring follows the device board.
