What the Core i5-10310Y is

The Core i5-10310Y is a four core, eight thread ultra mobile processor from the 10th generation Amber Lake Y family. It launched in August 2019 for thin detachables with a 1.1 GHz base and up to 4.1 GHz boost at 7 W. It steps above the 10210Y in clocks.

Six megabytes of Smart Cache match its sibling while boost rises 100 MHz. The 4.1 GHz single core peak leads Y tablet bursts for app launches. All core sustained speed settles near 2.8 GHz with adequate cooling.

UHD Graphics up to 1.05 GHz cover detachable displays and external monitors. The chip fits premium 2-in-1 designs between the 10210Y and the i7-10510Y. Four cores handle meetings plus background sync.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The 10310Y solders to BGA 1377 on thin detachable boards. Makers tune cTDP across 5.5 to 9 W per thickness. There is no socketed option.

Soldered memory and storage share the slim board with the SoC. Intel download pages carry the 6M cache specification. The LGA, PGA and BGA: CPU package types explained guide explains soldered trade offs.

U series BGA1528 boards cannot host the Y chip. Power envelopes differ completely.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

LPDDR3-2133 or DDR3L-1600 soldered in two channels up to 16 GB is the detachable memory. Premium designs fix 8 or 16 GB. No memory slots exist.

Ten PCIe 3.0 lanes wire NVMe storage and board devices per Y platform design. Detachables pair 256 GB SSDs with the chip. USB-C extends displays and storage.

Passive or single micro fan cooling covers 7 W silently. The 5.5 W down mode favors reading marathons. No retail cooler pattern exists.

Upgrade paths

Soldered packaging blocks processor upgrades. Keyboards and cloud storage extend detachable use. Device replacement is the performance path.

At order time the Core i7-10510Y adds cache and graphics speed on the same BGA 1377 family. Later tablets moved to newer low power silicon.
