What the Core i7-10875H is

The Core i7-10875H is an eight core, sixteen thread Comet Lake-H flagship for creator and gaming laptops. It launched in April 2020 with a 2.3 GHz base and up to 5.1 GHz Velocity Boost. It led the mobile i7 line until the late 10870H refresh added a value 8-core option.

Sixteen megabytes of Smart Cache support 4K timelines, VMs and compilation across eight cores. Velocity Boost needs cool margins to touch 5.1 GHz, while sustained all core work runs lower under 45 W. The two extra cores over 6-core H parts shorten exports clearly.

UHD Graphics 630 with 1.20 GHz burst cover pro apps on the internal panel. Discrete RTX GPUs handle 3D and CUDA. The chip fits 17 inch creator bodies with vapor chambers and thick dual fans, where thermals allow longer boost.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The 10875H solders to BGA 1440 on premium laptop boards. There is no socketed version. Makers pair it with HM470 for gaming flagships or WM490 and QM480 for workstation variants with management.

Power stages and firmware tune for creator stability rather than benchmark spikes. Maker performance profiles switch between quiet office and full render modes. The How to find your CPU socket type guide shows how to confirm BGA packaging in maker specs.

Desktop LGA 1200 boards cannot host the chip. The ball map, power limits and thermal tables are mobile specific.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2933 in two channels up to 128 GB is the rated laptop memory. Creator SKUs ship 32 GB dual channel with paths to 64 GB for After Effects and VMs. Matched pairs matter for preview smoothness.

PCIe 3.0 x16 from the CPU feeds high end RTX GPUs and Gen3 NVMe RAID. Thunderbolt on premium boards adds external storage and docks through chipset lanes. Gen4 SSDs negotiate down to Gen3 speed here.

Cooling is a flagship shared assembly with large fans and rear plus side exhaust. The 35 W down mode helps thin creator designs. Maintenance is dust removal and paste service, never a heatsink pattern change.

Upgrade paths

Soldered BGA means the CPU stays for the life of the laptop. Memory to 64 GB, NVMe to 2 or 4 TB, and calibrated external displays are the creator upgrades. A Thunderbolt dock improves desk use without board work.

A replacement laptop on BGA 1744 brings hybrid cores and Gen5 graphics for heavy 3D. Inside BGA 1440, the Intel Core i7-10870H offers similar 8-core performance as a later value flagship.
