What the Core i5-10200H is

The Core i5-10200H is a four core, eight thread mobile processor from the Comet Lake-H family. It launched in September 2020 for entry gaming and workstation laptops with a 2.4 GHz base and up to 4.1 GHz boost. Hyper-Threading is on across all four cores.

Eight megabytes of L3 back office and creation bursts. The 45 W base allows dual fan 15 inch chassis to hold clocks without the noise of 8-core flagships. Single core boost trails the i5-10300H by 400 MHz, which shows in timed exports.

UHD Graphics for 10th Gen processors covers the internal display and external monitors for office use. Gaming laptops pair the chip with a GeForce GTX or RTX GPU on the PCIe link. The soldered design fixes core count at purchase, so buyers choose 4 cores here or 6 cores higher up.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The 10200H solders to BGA 1440 at 42 by 28 mm with board memory. There is no socket and no CPU swap, so the laptop board defines the system for life. Cooling covers the 45 W base with turbo peaks in dual fans.

Boards pair the chip with HM470, QM480 or WM490 mobile chipsets for I/O and management. Memory is either SODIMM slots or soldered LPDDR per maker design. The How to find your CPU socket type guide shows where maker specs list the BGA package.

Desktop LGA 1200 boards do not accept mobile H chips. The package, power and firmware differ completely despite shared Comet Lake naming.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2933 in two channels up to 128 GB is the rated laptop configuration. Two SODIMMs in dual channel mode feed both CPU and integrated graphics. Faster kits fall back to 2933 on this SKU.

Sixteen PCIe 3.0 lanes from the CPU wire to discrete graphics and NVMe. Typical gaming boards give x16 to the GPU or split lanes for a fast SSD. Chipset lanes add SATA, audio and networking.

Thermal design centers on 45 W sustained with 35 W down configuration available to makers. Repasting and fan service follow the laptop manual. There is no aftermarket mounting pattern, since the die solders to the board.

Upgrade paths

There is no CPU upgrade path on soldered BGA 1440. Core count, graphics tier and memory ceiling stay as ordered. The practical lifts are a second SSD, a move to 16 or 32 GB of DDR4, and a clean OS install.

A system change to a 6-core Comet Lake-H laptop such as one with the Intel Core i7-10750H adds cores for creation. A platform change to BGA 1744 moves to hybrid mobile cores with PCIe Gen5, at the price of a whole new laptop.

Frequently asked questions

What socket does the Intel Core i5-10200H use?

It uses BGA 1440 soldered to the laptop board.

Can the i5-10200H be upgraded?

No. Soldered BGA chips cannot be replaced, so board or laptop replacement is the path.

How many cores does the i5-10200H have?

Four cores with eight threads at 2.4 GHz base and up to 4.1 GHz boost.

What memory does the i5-10200H support?

DDR4-2933 in two channels up to 128 GB, per laptop design.

When did the i5-10200H launch?

September 2020 with the late Comet Lake-H mobile stack.
