What the Atom x7211E is
The Atom x7211E is the 2-core low-power entry of Alder Lake-N embedded for industrial boards in January 2023. Two Gracemont efficient cores without hyperthreading burst to 3.2 GHz turbo, backed by 6 MB of cache. Intel lists no base frequency for this E part and a 6 W TDP for fanless enclosures, the lowest in the x7000E line. It suits gateways and HMIs where power matters more than burst speed.
UHD graphics with 16 execution units to 1.0 GHz drive three 4K displays through eDP, DisplayPort, HDMI and MIPI-DSI. Quick Sync covers signage decode without loading CPU cores. Single channel DDR4, DDR5 or LPDDR5 to 32 GB feeds the SoC, with board wiring fixing the type at order time.
Buyers pick the x7211E for the lowest power Alder Lake-N node where two cores cover fixed control images. The 10 W x7213E adds base-clock headroom on the same footprint for busier loads. Boards that support one BGA 1264 Alder Lake-N part generally support the family with a firmware check. The How to find your CPU socket type guide shows where ARK lists package data.
Socket and motherboard compatibility
The x7211E solders to BGA 1264 on embedded boards with no socketed path. Memory type, display wiring and temperature range follow board design. BGA 1264 does not cross to BGA 1493 Elkhart Lake boards. ARK lists FCBGA1264 as the package.
Nine PCIe Gen3 lanes serve NVMe, wireless and expansion, while USB and serial IO come from the SoC. Factory firmware carries Alder Lake-N support, so work centres on thermal validation and driver images rather than on CPU fit.
Memory, PCIe and cooling
Single channel DDR4-3200, DDR5-4800 or LPDDR5-4800 to 32 GB is fixed by board wiring. Soldered LPDDR5 suits sealed boxes, while SODIMM suits serviceable gateways. Bandwidth is modest by laptop standards but matches 6 W control loads.
PCIe Gen3 with 9 lanes covers storage and radios on compact boards. Cooling is a chassis spreader for 6 W with 105 C junction limits, often fully fanless. Sustained behaviour follows ambient temperature more than turbo ratings.
Upgrade paths
No CPU change is possible on soldered BGA 1264. Storage and radio modules move where slots exist. Display and serial expansion through board connectors add more value than internal swaps.
Within BGA 1264 the steps up are the x7213E at 10 W and the 4-core x7425E at 12 W on the same platform. Outside Alder Lake-N, Twin Lake parts on BGA 1264 add efficiency where boards support them.
