What the Xeon E-2176G is
The Xeon E-2176G is a six core, twelve thread workstation processor with a 3.7 GHz base and up to 4.7 GHz turbo. It carries 12 MB of Smart Cache and an 80 W TDP on the 14 nm process. Intel launched it with the E-2100 series in July 2018; ARK currently shows a Q4 2017 line that conflicts with every launch source and reads as a database error.
Six cores with Hyper-Threading cover rendering and CAD in a mid tower at 80 W, below the 95 W flagship bin. The 4.7 GHz turbo matches the top of the stack for bursty work. The multiplier is locked at 37 times the base clock.
UHD Graphics P630 runs from 350 MHz to 1.20 GHz for setup displays. Boxed and tray supply both exist, with boxed parts including a thermal solution. Launch pricing is omitted here because ARK and launch lists disagree between $362 and $406.
Socket and motherboard compatibility
The E-2176G fits LGA 1151 revision 2 on workstation boards with the C242 and C246 chipsets. Consumer 300 series boards are not the target, since ECC wiring lives on the workstation boards. Check the board maker CPU list for the exact E-2176G before ordering.
It does not fit 100 or 200 series boards, which are revision 1 for 6th and 7th Gen chips. Boards with display outputs suit this G SKU directly. A discrete workstation card still fits the x16 slot where GPU compute is needed.
Boards sold after mid 2018 accept it with the shipping BIOS where the maker lists the part. The Intel Xeon E-2146G is the lower clocked six core sibling on the same boards.
Memory, PCIe and cooling
Memory support is DDR4-2666 in two channels up to 128 GB, with ECC correcting single bit errors. Two matched ECC UDIMMs give dual channel speed with error cover. The P630 shares system memory, so dual channel mode helps display smoothness.
PCI Express arrives as version 3.0 with 16 lanes from the CPU for graphics and storage. A workstation card and two NVMe drives fit the lane budget of a mid tower. Cooling uses the shared 75 mm LGA 1151 pattern at 80 W.
Upgrade paths
On the same socket the step up is the 95 W E-2186G where sustained clocks matter, keeping the board and ECC DDR4. The E-2176G keeps its place where 80 W covers the work with less heat.
Moving past LGA 1151 means a new board on a current workstation platform. Owners usually add ECC memory or a faster workstation card before replacing the processor.
Frequently asked questions
