What the Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450GE is
The Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450GE is the 35 W twin of the desktop 450G, launched on March 2, 2026 for compact OEM business systems. It repeats the 8-core Gorgon Point specification exactly: four Zen 5 plus four Zen 5c cores for 16 threads at 2.0 GHz base to 5.1 GHz boost, 16 MB of L3 in 24 MB of total cache, 8 RDNA 3.5 compute units as Radeon 860M to 3100 MHz, and an XDNA 2 NPU with up to 50 TOPS at 1.9 GHz. Only the default TDP drops from 65 to 35 W.
The E suffix is AMD's long standing mark for efficiency desktop parts, and the trade it buys is thermals: the same throughput at lower sustained clocks in small chassis, mini PCs and thin clients that cannot cool 65 W. Burst behavior and maximum boost stay the same, since short loads rarely hit the power limit. The die is the same TSMC 4 nm Gorgon Point monolith as the mobile Ryzen AI 400 range.
Like its twin it ships only in OEM systems with no boxed retail version, and PRO manageability and security features serve fleet buyers. Copilot+ certification comes from the NPU with at least 16 GB of system memory.
Socket and motherboard compatibility
The 450GE plugs into AM5 and is replaceable like any socketed desktop chip. AMD's supporting chipset list matches the 450G: A620, B650, B650E, X670, X670E, B840, B850, X870 and X870E across the 600 and 800 series. Boards built before March 2026 need a BIOS that knows the APU, so the board CPU support list governs.
The 35 W rating suits small form factor boards with modest power delivery and compact coolers, where a 65 W chip would strain thermals and acoustics. The multiplier is locked, and tuning means memory profiles and power limits rather than frequency records.
The 65 W AMD Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450G is the full power twin for standard desktops with bigger cooling.
Memory, PCIe and cooling
Memory is DDR5 only over two channels to 256 GB, with ECC where the board enables it, and 16 GB or more for Copilot+. DDR4 modules from older systems cannot transfer. Faster kits run through board profiles.
PCIe lanes from the APU cover graphics and NVMe storage per board split. Most 35 W systems rely on the 860M integrated graphics with a fast SSD, which keeps the whole system quiet and efficient.
Cooling comes from the OEM low profile solution, since no retail box exists. Any AM5 cooler with the 54 × 90 mm pattern fits in principle, but small chassis need the low height design the system shipped with. The 95 degree maximum junction matches the 65 W twin. See the CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide.
Platform and positioning
AMD aims the GE class at small form factor fleets, kiosks, digital signage hosts and quiet office desktops that need AI features without heat or noise. The 50 TOPS NPU handles Copilot+ locally, the 860M drives modern displays, and eight threads cover office multitasking at 35 W. PRO security features complete the fleet story.
Against thin clients the GE wins on local capability, and against full desktops it wins on size and power while giving up sustained heavy compute.
Upgrade paths
On AM5 the 450GE can move to faster socketed processors on a supporting board, subject to BIOS, including chiplet Ryzen parts with more cores. Any such move needs to budget cooling and usually a discrete GPU.
The soldered mobile PRO range on FP8 covers laptops, where no socket swap exists at all.
Frequently asked questions
What socket does the Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450GE use?
It uses AM5, an LGA socket with 1,718 contacts. It is socketed and replaceable.
What is the difference between the 450GE and the 450G?
The GE is the 35 W efficiency version for small systems. Cores, graphics, cache and boost clocks match the 65 W 450G.
Does the 450GE support DDR4?
No. AM5 boards use DDR5 only, up to 256 GB on this APU.
Can the 450GE be bought as a boxed retail processor?
No. It ships only inside OEM business systems, with cooling supplied by the system builder.
