What the Ryzen 5 7500 is

The Ryzen 5 7500 is a six core, twelve thread desktop processor that AMD released in September 2026 as a late addition to the Ryzen 7000 series, codenamed Raphael. It uses the Zen 4 core design on TSMC 5 nm, paired with a 6 nm I/O die, and it carries 32 MB of L3 cache above 6 MB of L2. The base clock is 3.7 GHz with boost up to 5.0 GHz, and AMD rates the default TDP at 65 W.

The chip mirrors the Ryzen 5 7500F from July 2023 on cores, threads, clocks, cache and TDP. The difference is graphics: the 7500F needs a discrete card, while the 7500 includes Radeon graphics with two compute units running up to 2200 MHz. That makes the 7500 the version to pick when the system should show a picture without a graphics card, whether for an office build or as a holdover before a later card purchase.

The multiplier is unlocked, so owners can tune beyond stock settings with adequate cooling, and AMD bundles its Wraith Stealth cooler for stock operation. AMD lists the chip as a global boxed desktop processor, and its AM5 package keeps it inside the DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 platform.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The 7500 fits the AM5 socket, an LGA design with 1,718 contacts on the motherboard. AMD lists A620, B650, B650E, X670, X670E, B840, B850, X870 and X870E as supporting chipsets. Both the 600 series and the 800 series accept Raphael processors natively, so board choice comes down to I/O and price rather than compatibility.

What changes between chipsets is the board I/O around the chip: how many PCIe 5.0 slots the board exposes, whether USB4 is present and how many fast storage slots are wired. A620 boards leave out CPU overclocking, which matters to owners of an unlocked chip who want to tune. B650 remains the natural match for a 65 W six core part, with X670 and X870 types kept for builds that need their extra connectivity.

Processors from AM4 do not fit, since that socket puts pins on the chip while AM5 keeps its contacts in the board. Memory is DDR5 in every case, so a move from AM4 also means new modules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

The memory controller supports DDR5 at up to 5200 MT/s with two modules, across two channels and up to 128 GB, and EXPO profiles allow faster kits to run at their rated speed. There is no DDR4 option on AM5, so modules from an older DDR4 system cannot be reused. ECC is supported where the board allows it, which suits a workstation role as well as gaming.

The processor provides 28 PCIe 5.0 lanes, with 24 usable for devices such as the graphics card and NVMe drives. Which physical slots run at PCIe 5.0 speed depends on the board and its chipset, as the tables on the socket page show. A single graphics card plus one or two fast NVMe drives fits inside that budget.

Cooling follows the AM5 pattern of 54 × 90 mm mounting holes, shared with AM4, so many AM4 coolers carry over with the correct bracket. Coolers that bring their own backplate do not fit, because AM5 boards carry a fixed backplate. AMD bundles the Wraith Stealth for stock operation at 65 W, and the 95 °C ceiling is the designed limit rather than a fault. The CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide covers the mounting details.

Upgrade paths

The 7500 sits near the bottom of the AM5 stack, so nearly every direction on the same AM5 board is an upgrade: more cores for rendering, stacked cache for gaming, or a newer generation after a BIOS update on 600 series boards. AMD has said it will support the platform through 2029, which keeps a later processor swap on the table without changing the board or the memory.

Coming from an AM4 system built around a chip such as the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, the move needs a new board and DDR5 memory, since neither the old processor nor DDR4 modules fit AM5. The cooler may carry over where the maker lists AM5 support.

Frequently asked questions

What socket does the AMD Ryzen 5 7500 use?

It uses AM5, an LGA socket with 1,718 contacts. Matching boards come from the 600 and 800 series chipset families, with DDR5 memory.

What is the difference between the Ryzen 5 7500 and the 7500F?

The two match on cores, threads, clocks, cache and TDP. The 7500 includes Radeon graphics with two compute units, while the 7500F needs a discrete graphics card.

Does the Ryzen 5 7500 support DDR4 memory?

No. AM5 is a DDR5 only platform. This processor is officially rated up to 5200 MT/s with two modules.

Does the Ryzen 5 7500 come with a cooler?

Yes. AMD bundles the Wraith Stealth cooler with the boxed processor, which covers stock operation at 65 W.

Can the Ryzen 5 7500 be overclocked?

Yes. AMD lists the multiplier as unlocked, so tuning is possible with adequate cooling. Pick B650 or a stronger chipset for tuning, since A620 leaves out CPU overclocking.
