BGA 2049 socket: CPUs, chipsets and cooler fit
BGA 2049 is Intel's soldered ball grid array package for the Arrow Lake-H Core Ultra 200H mobile family. It carries 2,049 balls in the FCBGA2049 package measuring 50 × 25 mm. Intel launched the H range in January 2025 with Lion Cove Performance-cores, Skymont Efficient-cores and low-power island E-cores plus Arc graphics and an AI Boost NPU.

Overview
The package pairs up to 16 cores with LPDDR5X up to 8400 MT/s or DDR5 up to 6400 MT/s in two channels and up to 28 lanes of PCIe 5.0 and 4.0. That balance suits thin performance laptops where a 28 W base power with 115 W turbo headroom matters more than the sustained draw of the 55 W HX line. The junction limit of 110 degrees C gives headroom for slim chassis.
Like every soldered Intel BGA package, BGA 2049 trades replacement for integration. The chip cannot be swapped, cooling is part of the laptop design for the configured TDP, and buyers choose the whole system at purchase. When a design needs desktop-class sustained power instead, the larger BGA 2114 package carries the Arrow Lake-HX line at 55 W base power.

| Arrow Lake-H | Core Ultra 200H series | 2025 | Lion Cove and Skymont mobile processors with Arc graphics and an AI Boost NPU, launched in January 2025 at 28 W with a 45 W flagship. |
A soldered package for thin laptops
BGA 2049 follows the same rule as every BGA package on this site: the processor is soldered once at the factory and stays with the board for life. There are no pins to bend and no lever to lift, but there is also no CPU upgrade path. A laptop buyer lives with the chosen SKU, and the 28 W models cannot be turned into the 45 W 285H later. Intel backs the range with vPro options on selected SKUs for managed fleets.
The 50 × 25 mm FCBGA2049 footprint needs its own board layout, and the memory decision between soldered LPDDR5X and socketed DDR5 SODIMM is fixed per design. Compatibility still depends on firmware, so a board revision needs a BIOS that knows the Arrow Lake-H stepping.
Memory, expansion and cooling
Memory on BGA 2049 is a board decision with two valid answers. Thin designs solder LPDDR5X up to 8400 MT/s for bandwidth that feeds both the CPU and the Arc GPU, while serviceable designs use DDR5 SODIMM slots up to 6400 MT/s. Capacity tops out at 128 GB on two channels. ECC is not part of these SKUs, so workstation designs that need error correction look elsewhere.
Expansion comes from up to 28 lanes of PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 plus Thunderbolt 4 ports and display outputs including HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1. The lanes usually split between discrete graphics on gaming designs, NVMe storage and wired networking, with the exact split fixed per board. AI work splits across CPU, Arc GPU and the 13 TOPS AI Boost NPU for 83 to 99 platform TOPS depending on the SKU.
Cooling has no retail answer on BGA 2049. The same package spans 28 W efficiency-tuned designs to the 45 W 285H flagship, and the heat pipes or vapor chamber are drawn for the configured TDP of that laptop. The 110 degree junction limit suits slim performance chassis with careful airflow, and mounting follows the maker specification rather than a cooler maker socket list.
Where BGA 2049 designs are used
BGA 2049 covers thin performance laptops, creator notebooks and mobile workstations that need Arc graphics and NPU acceleration without HX power draw. The range scales from 14-core 225H boards to the 16-core 285H flagship with Arc 140T graphics, with vPro Essentials on selected SKUs for business fleets. Gaming designs pair the chip with discrete graphics over the Gen 5 x8 link.
Desktop-replacement buyers meet higher sustained power on BGA 2114 instead, where Arrow Lake-HX parts take 55 W base with 160 W turbo headroom and unlocked multipliers. BGA 2049 stays the thin-system home of Arrow Lake mobile. Designs that outgrow 16 cores or need ECC move to larger socketed platforms.

Frequently asked questions
Can a BGA 2049 processor be replaced or upgraded?
No. The processor is soldered to the board in the FCBGA2049 package. Upgrading means replacing the board or module, so choose core count, graphics and memory at purchase time.
Which processors fit BGA 2049?
Arrow Lake-H Core Ultra 200H parts: the 14-core 225H and 235H at 28 W plus the 16-core 255H, 265H at 28 W and 285H at 45 W in this batch. All carry an Arc GPU and an AI Boost NPU.
What memory does BGA 2049 use?
LPDDR5X up to 8400 MT/s or DDR5 up to 6400 MT/s in two channels, up to 128 GB. The board fixes the memory type, and Arc graphics need dual-channel memory of 16 GB or more for full branding.
How many PCIe lanes does BGA 2049 provide?
PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 in a 1x8 Gen 5 plus 3x4 and 2x4 Gen 4 layout for up to 28 lanes, plus Thunderbolt 4. Lane splits follow the laptop board design.
