What the Pentium SU4100 is
The Intel Pentium SU4100 is a dual core Penryn mobile processor from September 2009 for thin notebooks. It runs two Penryn cores at 1.3 GHz with no turbo and no Hyper-Threading, so 2 cores give 2 threads. Cache is 2 MB of shared L2 on a 45 nm process. Power is rated at 10 W.
The SU4100 doubles the SU2700 at the same 1.3 GHz and 10 W for thin multitasking. Intel material declarations list the SU4100 alongside the SU2700 in the mobile Pentium set. Against socketed T parts it trails on clocks with a third of the power.
There is no graphics on the CPU. Display comes from the mobile chipset.
Socket and motherboard compatibility
The Pentium SU4100 is soldered to the board in BGA 956 and cannot be replaced.
Firmware must list the exact sSpec stepping. The CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide covers soldered rules.
Memory, PCIe and cooling
Memory is DDR2 or DDR3 in two channels depending on the chipset.
The 800 MT/s front side bus links the CPU to the chipset. PCIe slots hang off the chipset.
Cooling uses a thin vendor spreader drawn for 10 W.
Upgrade paths
There is no CPU upgrade path on BGA 956 because the chip is soldered. Keep the SU4100 where dual threads at 10 W cover thin notebook work.
Frequently asked questions
