What the Pentium E6800 is

The Intel Pentium E6800 is a dual core Wolfdale desktop processor that Intel added in August 2010. It runs two cores at 3.333 GHz with no turbo, so 2 cores give 2 threads. The pair shares 2 MB of L2 cache on a 45 nm process. Power is rated at 65 W with a 1066 MT/s front side bus and the SLGUE sSpec.

The E6800 is the fastest Pentium for LGA 775, about 130 MHz above the E6700 at the same 65 W. At 3.333 GHz on a 12.5x multiplier it suits office towers that stay on DDR2 boards. Against Core 2 Duo E8xxx parts it trails in cache sensitive games because 2 MB faces 6 MB.

There is no graphics on the CPU. Display comes from the board chipset or a discrete card.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The Pentium E6800 fits LGA 775 with 775 lands. Intel 4 series boards boot it natively with a late 2010 BIOS, 3 series after a listed update.

The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers pairing rules, and the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 page shows a quad on the same socket.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is DDR2 or DDR3 in two channels depending on the board chipset.

The 1066 MT/s front side bus links the CPU to the chipset. PCIe Gen 2 slots hang off the chipset.

Cooling is the stock 65 W LGA 775 sink on the 72 × 72 mm pattern.

Upgrade paths

On LGA 775 the upgrade is a Core 2 Duo E8xxx with 6 MB of cache or a Core 2 Quad on strong boards. Beyond LGA 775 a move to LGA 1156 needs a new board.
