What the Sempron 3000+ EE SFF is

The AMD Sempron 3000+ EE SFF is a 1.6 GHz small-form-factor single core from May 2006. It runs one K8 core at 1.6 GHz with no turbo, so 1 core gives 1 thread. Cache is 256 KB of L2 on a 90 nm process. Power is rated at 35 W on Socket AM2.

The EE SFF line cut Manila power to 35 W on an 800 MT/s HyperTransport link with an 8x multiplier at reduced voltage. It exists because small towers wanted the 256 KB Sempron 3000+ throughput at nearly half the 62 W of the standard part.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The 3000+ EE SFF drops into Socket AM2 boards with DDR2 memory and a BIOS that lists energy-efficient Manila parts. It pairs with small-form-factor AM2 boards contemporary with the May 2006 launch. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers pairing rules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 in two channels through the on-chip controller.

HyperTransport at 800 MT/s links the CPU to the chipset. PCIe slots hang off the chipset.

Cooling is any 35 W rated AM2 heatsink on the 48 × 96 mm mount, with CoolnQuiet trimming draw at idle.

Upgrade paths

On Socket AM2 the upgrade is the Sempron 3400+ EE SFF at 1.8 GHz with 256 KB at the same 35 W, or the AMD Sempron 3000+ at 1.6 GHz for the standard 62 W part. Beyond AM2 a move to AM2+ or AM3 needs a new board for Phenom class parts.
