AMD A4-3305M socket: Socket FS1

The AMD A4-3305M uses the Socket FS1 socket. It is a socketed 35 W dual core Llano mobile APU at 1.9 GHz to 2.5 GHz with half the L2 of the A4-3300M.

What the A4-3305M is

AMD A4-3305M is a dual core Llano mobile APU that AMD released in December 2011 for socketed laptops. It uses the Stars K10 core design on a 32 nm process, running at 1.9 GHz base with Turbo Core to 2.5 GHz. The cache is 1 MB of L2 with 512 KB per core, half the A4-3300M at the same clocks. Power is 35 W. Graphics carry the HD 6480G name with 160 shaders at a faster 593 MHz to offset the smaller cache.

The December refresh trades cache for graphics clocks at identical CPU rates and power. Office tasks that fit the smaller L2 feel the same, while display work gains from the 593 MHz block. Threads equal cores at 2.

Laptops pair it with DDR3-1333 SODIMMs and a single fan. The same 35 W envelope as the 3300M keeps heatsinks interchangeable. The How to find your CPU socket type guide shows how to confirm the socket.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The A4-3305M fits Socket FS1 with 722 contacts in pin grid form. Hudson A60M and A70M boards carry it where the BIOS lists the exact A4-3305M string. Late 2011 models need firmware new enough to list the refresh SKU.

At 35 W any Socket FS1 heatsink of that class covers it. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide explains the board order.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory support is DDR3-1333, two channels. Two matched SODIMMs feed cores and the faster graphics block. DDR3-1600 stays an MX feature.

PCI Express is revision 2.0 from the APU for Wi-Fi and storage. Most builds stay on integrated graphics.

Cooling is board specific for 35 W. The smaller cache does not change thermal behavior against the 3300M.

Upgrade paths

On Socket FS1 the A4-3305M can move to full cache A4 parts or faster A6 and A8 APUs where access and BIOS allow it. Memory and storage carry over. A full cache comparison at the same clocks is AMD A4-3300M on the same socket.

A platform move means a new laptop. Keep the current body for office duty after a wipe.
