What the Pentium P6000 is

The Intel Pentium P6000 is a dual core Arrandale mobile processor that Intel launched in June 2010 for budget notebooks. It runs two Westmere cores at 1877 MHz with no turbo and no Hyper-Threading, so 2 cores give 2 threads. Each core carries 256 KB of L2 cache with 3 MB of shared L3 cache. Power is rated at 35 W on a 32 nm CPU die with a 45 nm graphics die.

The odd 1877 MHz clock comes from a 14x multiplier on the 133 MHz base clock. Against the P6100 at 2.0 GHz it trails by about 120 MHz at the same 35 W. HD Graphics with 12 execution units cover office displays. The multiplier is locked.

Memory is DDR3 in two channels up to 8 GB through the on package controller.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The Pentium P6000 fits Socket G1 with 988 pins in rPGA form. HM55 class boards boot Arrandale directly. Check the notebook vendor CPU list because OEM boards often restrict faster chips.

Socket G1 chips never fit BGA 1288 boards despite shared silicon. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers pairing rules, and the Intel Pentium P6300 page shows a later Pentium on the same socket.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is DDR3-1066 in two channels up to 8 GB. A matched pair of SO-DIMMs suits most P6000 notebooks.

PCIe 2.0 x16 comes from the package for discrete graphics options.

Cooling uses the notebook vendor heat pipe assembly rated for 35 W.

Upgrade paths

On Socket G1 the upgrade is a P6200 at 2.133 GHz or a Core i3 with Hyper-Threading on the same board. Beyond Socket G1 a move to Sandy Bridge needs a new notebook.
