What the Core i3-10320 is

The Core i3-10320 is a four core, eight thread Comet Lake desktop processor. It shipped in April 2020 as the top locked i3 of the 10th Gen, 100 MHz above the i3-10300 at base and 200 MHz above at boost. The single core ceiling of 4.6 GHz helps games and office bursts that depend on one fast thread.

All core boost lands near 4.4 GHz with decent cooling, which keeps rendering and encodes moving. Eight megabytes of L3 feed the four cores without the cache pressure seen on dual cores. The 65 W rating is the same as the i3-10300, so board and cooler needs do not change.

UHD Graphics 630 covers triple displays and hardware video. The chip suits budget gaming rigs with a discrete card, where its high boost keeps 1080p titles smooth. Compared with the unlocked i3-10350K below, it trades tuning headroom for lower power and a bundled cooler option.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The i3-10320 fits LGA 1200 on 400 and 500 series boards. Both series accept Comet Lake natively. B460, H410, B560 and H510 are the sensible low cost hosts for a locked 65 W chip.

Memory tuning on Z490 and Z590 can lift DDR4 above 2666, which helps minimum frame rates slightly. The CPU multiplier itself stays locked. A board with cooled power stages sustains all core boost longer in summer heat. LGA 1151 boards are physically incompatible.

Business variants on Q470 and Q570 add fleet tools with the same socket fit. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide explains the split inside the 400 series for later Rocket Lake upgrades.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

DDR4-2666 remains the rated speed in two channels up to 128 GB. Two matched modules unlock dual channel bandwidth for graphics and games. Higher rated kits downclock unless the board enables XMP.

PCIe 3.0 x16 from the CPU handles a single graphics card plus NVMe through chipset lanes. A 2020 mid range GPU plus one NVMe SSD is the balanced pairing. Older SATA SSDs attach through the chipset without touching CPU lanes.

LGA 1200 uses 75 mm cooler holes shared with LGA 1156 through LGA 1151. The boxed cooler manages stock operation, while a 120 mm tower keeps boost steady and quiet. Bracket details are in the CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide.

Upgrade paths

Within the socket the Core i5-10500 adds six cores for streaming, and the Core i7-10700 adds eight cores for creation. Both drop into the same board with the same DDR4. The i3 to i5 jump helps most when background tasks multiply.

Rocket Lake on 500 series boards brings PCIe 4.0 with a Intel Core i5-11400, while a move to LGA 1700 opens hybrid cores and DDR5. For many i3-10320 PCs, a graphics card upgrade matters more than a processor swap.
