What the Core 2 Duo U7700 is

The Intel Core 2 Duo U7700 is a 1.333 GHz ultra-low-voltage mobile dual core from February 2008. It runs two Core cores at 1.333 GHz with no turbo, so 2 cores give 2 threads. Cache is 2 MB of shared L2 on a 65 nm process. Power is rated at 10 W on Socket P.

The U7700 tops the Merom ULV line for thin notebooks that needed the quickest 10 W dual core, pairing a 533 MT/s bus with VT-x virtualization. Per-model detail is thinner than on the U7500, resting on the task list and the shared ULV family documentation. An Intel notice also tracks these ULV parts through a Merom stepping conversion.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The U7700 fits Socket P notebooks with DDR2 memory and a BIOS that lists ultra-low-voltage Merom parts. It does not fit Socket M boards despite the shared 478 pins. Display comes from the notebook board graphics. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers pairing rules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is DDR2 through the board chipset in two channels.

A 533 MT/s front side bus ties the CPU to the mobile chipset. PCIe slots and board graphics hang off the chipset.

Cooling is the notebook vendor heat pipe assembly for the exact chassis, with Enhanced SpeedStep trimming clocks and voltage on battery.

Upgrade paths

On Socket P the U7700 is the ULV ceiling, so the moves are the Intel Core 2 Duo U7500 at 1.073 GHz for a cheaper 10 W part, or a standard-voltage Merom where the chassis cools 35 W. A swap must stay within the thermal design the chassis was qualified for.
