What the Atom Z625 is

The Intel Atom Z625 is the fastest Lincroft member on BGA 518. It runs one Bonnell core with Hyper-Threading for two threads at 1.5 GHz base with Burst Performance Technology to 1.9 GHz on one core, backed by 512 KB of L2 cache. Power is rated at 2.2 W on a 45 nm process. Intel lists May 4, 2010 as the launch date.

Burst raises the clock from 1.5 GHz to 1.9 GHz when only one thread needs speed and thermal headroom allows, which helps page loads on tablets. The Z625 carries GMA600 graphics at 400 MHz on die with DDR2-800 memory. Against the Z615 at fixed 1.6 GHz it trades a lower base for a higher single thread peak at the same 2.2 W.

The cpu_list clock of 1900 MHz reflects the Burst peak; the base clock is 1.5 GHz per WikiChip and the Intel table.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The Atom Z625 is soldered to the board in BGA 518 and cannot be replaced.

Firmware must match the sSpec stepping with the companion. The CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide covers soldered rules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is single-channel DDR2-800, fixed per design, up to 2 GB.

There is no PCIe from the CPU. Board I/O comes from the companion chip.

Cooling is passive by design for 2.2 W.

Upgrade paths

There is no CPU upgrade path on BGA 518 because the chip is soldered. Keep the Z625 where Burst single thread speed covers tablet work.
