What the Atom E625C is

The Intel Atom E625C is the 600 MHz commercial member of the Stellarton stack on BGA 1466. It runs one Bonnell core with Hyper-Threading for two threads at 600 MHz with no turbo, backed by 512 KB of L2 cache. Power is rated at 2.7 W on a 45 nm process. Intel lists November 22, 2010 as the launch date with commercial temperature range of 0 to 70 C.

At 600 MHz and 2.7 W it suits battery backed sensors, simple HMIs and low cost terminals where power matters more than speed. The E625C is the commercial version, while the E625CT is the minus 40 to 85 C industrial version at identical clocks and power. GMA600 graphics at 320 MHz cover basic displays.

Memory is single-channel DDR2 up to DDR2-800 with up to 2 GB fixed per board.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The Atom E625C is soldered to the board in BGA 1466 and cannot be replaced. Board replacement is the only upgrade path.

Compatibility depends on firmware with the Stellarton B0 stepping. The CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide covers soldered rules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is single-channel DDR2 up to DDR2-800 with up to 2 GB, fixed per board. ECC is not part of this SKU.

Expansion comes from 4 lanes of PCIe 1.0a plus USB and display outputs.

Cooling has no retail answer. The 2.7 W envelope suits passive spreaders in small enclosures.

Upgrade paths

There is no CPU upgrade path on BGA 1466 because the chip is soldered. A faster Stellarton such as the 1 GHz E645C fits the same package where the vendor offers that board, otherwise a new board is needed.

Frequently asked questions

What socket does the Intel Atom E625C use?

BGA 1466 (FC-BGA 1466), the soldered 1,466-ball package. The chip cannot be removed.

How are the cores of the E625C arranged?

One Bonnell core with Hyper-Threading for two threads at 600 MHz, with 512 KB of L2 cache.

What memory does the E625C need?

DDR2 single channel up to DDR2-800 with up to 2 GB, fixed per board.

What does the C suffix mean?

The C suffix marks 0 to 70 C commercial range. The E625CT is the industrial version at the same clocks and power.
