What the Sempron 3300+ is

The AMD Sempron 3300+ is a 2 GHz single-core desktop-replacement processor from August 2005. It runs one K8 core at 2 GHz with no turbo, so 1 core gives 1 thread. Cache is 128 KB of L2 on a 90 nm process. Power is rated at 62 W on Socket 754.

The Georgetown 3300+ served desktop-replacement notebooks on an 800 MT/s HyperTransport link with a 10x multiplier. It exists because buyers wanted a 2 GHz Sempron at the entry cache size at the standard 62 W. Note that Palermo desktop and Roma low-power parts share the 3300+ number with different power and need different boards.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The 3300+ fits Socket 754 boards with DDR memory and a BIOS that lists Georgetown desktop-replacement parts. It does not fit low-power 25 W boards despite the shared number. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide covers pairing rules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is DDR in a single channel through the on-chip controller.

HyperTransport at 800 MT/s links the CPU to the chipset. PCIe or AGP slots hang off the chipset.

Cooling is any 62 W rated Socket 754 heatsink on the 90 mm two-hole mount, with CoolnQuiet trimming draw at idle.

Upgrade paths

On Socket 754 the upgrade is the AMD Sempron 3600+ at 2.2 GHz in the Albany line at the same 62 W, or the AMD Sempron 3100+ at 1.8 GHz for a lower cost Sonora part. Beyond Socket 754 a move to Socket AM2 needs a new board and DDR2 memory.

Frequently asked questions

What socket does the Sempron 3300+ use?
