What the Ryzen 5 PRO 1600 is

The Ryzen 5 PRO 1600 is a six core, twelve thread desktop processor with a 3.2 GHz base and up to 3.6 GHz boost. It carries 3 MB of L2 with 16 MB of shared L3 and a 65 W TDP on the 14 nm process. AMD launched it on June 29, 2017 with the PRO line; one aggregator mislists 95 W against 65 W everywhere else.

Six cores cover compilation and virtualization in managed towers at 65 W. Business firmware brings GuardMI, DASH and image stability. The multiplier is unlocked.

There is no integrated graphics, so a separate card is required. Supply runs OEM tray only with no boxed cooler and no public SEP. ECC works where the board supports it.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The PRO 1600 fits AM4 on 300, 400 and 500 series boards. Commercial buyers should check the board maker CPU support list for the exact PRO model. The Socket vs chipset: what decides whether a CPU works guide lists board support by series.

A discrete card covers setup and office triples. The 65 W rating fits standard office cooling on the AM4 pattern. The AMD Ryzen 5 1600 is the consumer twin on the same boards with a boxed Spire cooler.

Installation follows the usual AM4 routine. Lift the retention lever, line up the marked corner, let the chip settle by its own weight and close the lever.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

The memory controller supports DDR4-2666 in two channels up to 64 GB on launch BIOS, board dependent. Two matched sticks give dual channel speed for threaded fleet work. ECC unbuffered DIMMs work where the board wires them.

PCI Express arrives as version 3.0 with 16 lanes from the CPU for graphics and storage. A business card and an NVMe drive fit the lane budget of a managed tower. Cooling follows the 65 W envelope with office towers on the AM4 pattern.

Upgrade paths

On the same socket the natural moves are eight core PRO parts where thread counts grow, keeping board and DDR4. Fleet images stay on one baseline, so refreshes happen by model.

Moving past AM4 to AM5 needs a new board and DDR5 memory. The PRO 1600 exists to hold business images stable on installed boards.

Frequently asked questions

What socket does the Ryzen 5 PRO 1600 use?

It uses AM4 on 300, 400 and 500 series boards with a BIOS that lists the PRO part.

How many cores does the PRO 1600 have?

Six cores with multithreading give twelve threads at 3.2 GHz base with up to 3.6 GHz boost, at 65 W.

What is the TDP of the PRO 1600?

65 W per AMD, the database and encyclopedia entries. One aggregator mislists 95 W.

What does PRO add over the consumer version?

GuardMI security, DASH manageability and image stability for fleets. The consumer 1600 ships with a boxed cooler instead.

What memory does the PRO 1600 support?

DDR4-2666 in two channels up to 64 GB on launch BIOS, with ECC where the board supports it.
