What the Celeron J4025 is
The Celeron J4025 is a dual core, two thread desktop SoC from the Gemini Lake Refresh. It launched in November 2019 with a 2.0 GHz base and up to 2.9 GHz burst at 10 W. Two Goldmont Plus cores cover single task terminals.
Four megabytes of shared L2 back browsing and playback. The high 2.9 GHz burst for a dual core keeps one application responsive. Ten watts fit the smallest fanless boxes with room to spare.
UHD Graphics 600 with 12 execution units up to 700 MHz drive 4K signs and office monitors. The chip fits single purpose terminals where a quad core idles. Schools buy fleets of J4025 boxes for labs.
Socket and motherboard compatibility
The J4025 solders to BGA 1090 on compact boards. Tray supply serves board makers directly. There is no retail boxed version.
Passive cooling covers 10 W in sealed terminals. Windows and Linux both run signage stacks. The LGA, PGA and BGA: CPU package types explained guide frames soldered SoC service.
LGA desktop boards cannot take Gemini Lake. The SoC package is unique.
Memory, PCIe and cooling
DDR4 or LPDDR4 up to 2400 MT/s in two channels up to 8 GB is the board memory. Terminals ship 4 GB typically. No ECC support exists.
Six PCIe 2.0 lanes wire storage and networking. A 64 GB eMMC plus SATA SSD covers terminal images. Wi-Fi flows through board modules.
A small aluminum spreader cools 10 W silently. No fan means no dust failures. Storage swaps are the only service.
Upgrade paths
No processor upgrade exists on soldered BGA. Storage growth and OS refreshes extend terminal life. Device replacement is the performance path.
A move to the quad core Intel Celeron J4125 on the same BGA 1090 family doubles cores for multitasking terminals.
