What the Atom D425 is

The Intel Atom D425 is a single core Pineview nettop processor on BGA 559. It runs one Bonnell core with Hyper-Threading for two threads at 1834 MHz with no turbo, backed by 512 KB of L2 cache. Power is rated at 10 W on a 45 nm process with 123 million transistors. Intel lists June 21, 2010 as the launch date with the SLBXD sSpec.

The D425 refreshes the D410 with about 170 MHz more at the same 10 W, plus DDR3 support alongside DDR2. Against the dual core D525 at the same 1.8 GHz it trails in multitasking because two threads face four. GMA3150 graphics at 400 MHz cover nettop displays. Note on socket: some database rows list BGA 437, but Intel table data, CPU-Z validations and board listings place the D425 on FC-BGA 559, so this page files it under BGA 559 with Pineview.

Memory is single-channel DDR2-800 or DDR3-800 up to 4 GB on desktop boards.

Socket and motherboard compatibility

The Atom D425 is soldered to the board in BGA 559 and cannot be replaced. Nettop repair means board replacement.

The NM10 Express chipset pairs over DMI, so firmware must list the SLBXD sSpec. The CPU cooler compatibility by socket guide covers soldered rules.

Memory, PCIe and cooling

Memory is single-channel DDR2-800 or DDR3-800 up to 4 GB, fixed per design. DDR3 modules suit late boards.

PCIe comes from the NM10 chipset. Board wiring decides slot options.

Cooling is a small fan or spreader drawn for 10 W in the nettop chassis.

Upgrade paths

There is no CPU upgrade path on BGA 559 because the chip is soldered. A dual core D525 at the same 1.8 GHz fits the same package class where the vendor offers that board.

Frequently asked questions

What socket does the Intel Atom D425 use?

BGA 559 (FC-BGA 559), the soldered 559-ball package. Table data and validations place D425 here rather than BGA 437.

How are the cores of the D425 arranged?

One Pineview core with Hyper-Threading for two threads at 1834 MHz, with 512 KB of L2 cache.

What memory does the D425 need?

DDR2-800 or DDR3-800 single channel up to 4 GB, fixed per design.
